Anna-Lou ou Annie Leibovitz est née le 2 octobre 1949 à Waterbury dans le Connecticut aux Etats unis.
À la fin des années 1960, elle est étudiante au San Francisco Art Institute, où elle prend des cours de peinture et de photographie.
C’est l’une des plus célèbres photographes américaines. Elle photographie de nombreuses personnes célèbres, et elle est connue pour ses portraits.
Elle a travaillé pour le magazine « Rolling Stone » de 1970 à 1983, en tant que photographe officielle, elle a fait 142 couvertures.
En 1983, elle quitte le magazine « Rolling Stone » et elle devient photographe pour le magazine « Vanity Fair ».
En 1991, elle a exposé à la National Portrait Gallery de Washington.
En 1998, elle devient photographe pour « Vogue ».
Annie Leibovitz travaille également pour des campagnes publicitaires.
Elle a réalisé des reportages sur Richard Nixon, l'élection de Bill Clinton et l'après-11 septembre, ainsi que des photos de paysages aux Etats-Unis.
En 2008 une exposition est organisée au Brooklyn Museum de New York. Et en septembre de l’a même année, elle expose à la Maison européenne de la photographie à Paris.
